“This story was inspired by the birth of life from the oceans of our planet, and our connection to the water and has nods to the Yorubá culture.

My mother, who is Arab-Brazilian, raised me and my sister in the Candomblé religion, which is an Afro-Brazilian version of a religion from the Yorubá people in Nigeria. And despite us being from a different ethnic background, candomblé imagery molded so much of my own identity and the way I see the world, and there are nods throughout the aesthetic of this story. “
